News from Lizzy - 7/16/2007

Greetings all,

Hope you are all enjoying a beautiful summer! Just a quick note about some shows I have coming up, and an update on the Half Zaftig album.

Next Sunday, July 22 I will be playing at the Bite of Seattle with the 80's cover band Mister Miyagi. We go on at 4:00 on the 95.7 KJR FM Stage. Come down to Seattle Center and sample some of Seattle's most delicious food, as always it is free to attend. More info here: http://www.biteofseattle.com

In August, Half Zaftig makes its return to the stage after well over a year. We are playing Sunday, August 12 at The Central in Seattle's Pioneer Square. We are going on second, around 10:30pm or so. The big question is…will we have the new album available for sale???? It's possible but I don't know. Which brings me to the next item…

We are closer than ever to the finish line for the new Half Zaftig album, "Life Like Luster". The master will be sent off to manufacturing very very soon. I will send out another update with ordering information once we have discs in hand. It is sounding great and I can't wait for everyone to hear it. The artwork is also fantastic, with paintings by Anders Nyberg who is a great artist from Sweden. There are also new Half Zaftig t-shirts based on the album artwork which will be available in the Wonky Store soon. Info at: http://www.halfzaftig.com and http://www.wonky-records.com/mart/

Lastly, Charlie Drown will be headlining the main stage at Seattle's Hempfest on Sunday, August 19th at Myrtle Edwards Park. We will play at 7:00pm just prior to the big ceremony to close out the whole Hempfest weekend. It is also free to attend. And if you like to people-watch, this is the place to do it. Info at http://www.charliedrown.com and http://hempfest.org

That's it! Rock on wit yo bad selves.

Love,
Lizzy

News from Lizzy - 5/12/2007

Greetings everyone!

A few items to note for you. The Half Zaftig album is being mastered as we speak and should be ready for CD manufacturing very soon, hopefully in the next few weeks. In the meantime, you can listen to a podcast interview with the three of us where we discuss and listen to a few of the new songs. Check it out at Wonky Records Conversations, you can either subscribe via iTunes, or listen/download right on this
page: http://feeds.feedburner.com/WonkyRecordsConversations

In Charlie Drown news, we have a gig coming up on Friday, May 25 at the Central in Seattle. Also appearing will be our friends Dissonance and Enkrya. Charlie Drown will headline, so if you need a nap feel free to show up around midnight or so to catch the set. We will be adding a couple of the brand new never-before-heard-live songs to the set, so this could be a very cool show to see! Details, including the when, where and how much can be found on my calendar page:
http://www.lizzydaymont.com/calendar.html

Also on the horizon is the new Charlie Drown album, there is one new song, called "Justine" that can currently be heard at the Charlie Drown MySpace page here: http://www.myspace.com/charliedrown We are cycling one-at-a-time through new songs to preview, so get it while you can before it changes. Next up will be a song called "Love Dragons".

Lastly, I want to mention that I am really loving the new album by Seattle singer/songwriter Brandi Carlile, "The Story". I had the privilege of playing on the bill with her some years ago and was really impressed by her performance then, and she is even better now.
Please check her out if you like country-tinged rock. Her MySpace page is at http://www.myspace.com/brandicarlileband

That's it for this time!

News from Lizzy - 3/10/2007

Greetings all!

Just a few things to let you all know about.

Next weekend I will be playing a show with Charlie Drown at Jimmy Z's in Everett, WA. This will be a fundraiser for the Jet City Rollergirls, a local roller derby team. There will be 2 other bands and other entertainment, specifically Jello wrestling. So come on out on Friday, March 16 and have some pre-St. Patrick's Day fun! Times and ticket info is at my site here: http://www.lizzydaymont.com/calendar.html

Today I received word that an album I played bass on is now available to purchase at the iTunes download store. I'm not sure if there is or will be a physical CD available, but for now it's downloadable for those who are interested. The album is by singer songwriter Scott Schweiger, and it was produced by David Loy who previously played keyboards for Susan Robkin's band. The title is "Colorful Thing". I've heard some clips and it sounds marvelous indeed! Scott is a talented songwriter and his and David's work on this is fantastic. You can hear a few clips at CD Baby here: http://cdbaby.com/cd/scottschweiger
and purchase/download the tracks at iTunes!

We are nearing completion of the mixing for the Half Zaftig album. Just finishing up the last few tracks and hearing some test mixes before making the final tweaks so everyone is happy. We have an artist in Sweden named Anders Nyberg who is working on the cover art. I have seen the initial drafts, which are very cool! The CD package is going to be great, and we are looking into offering a bonus disc which will have some extra goodies that didn't make it onto the album. The release date for "Life Like Luster" will likely be sometime in June. Watch for it at http://www.halfzaftig.com or at our MySpace page here: http://www.myspace.com/halfzaftig

That's about it for this update, carry on!

News from Lizzy - 1/25/2007

Hello everybody!

Big news for Half Zaftig. After nearly two years, the new album "Life Like Luster" is ready to mix! We have decided on what songs to include and will begin the mixing process this week. Assuming all goes well, you should expect to see the CD come out in a few months.

We even have our first press review in the local rag, The Stranger. Lest anyone think we are actually cool enough for the Stranger to want to review us, rest assured we are not. We bought the review as part of their annual charity auction, where the winners receive space in a special issue. Pick up a copy this week to see our smiling faces in color, or read just the review online here: http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=142598

Since the album is not exactly finished, they got a copy of the rough mixes for the review. Speaking of which, YOU can hear a sampling of the songs at the Half Zaftig MySpace page here: http://www.myspace.com/halfzaftig. We have posted a medley of snippets as well as rough mixes of two songs. Go have a listen and see what we've been up to all this time!

I have one show coming up on February 24th with Charlie Drown, we will be opening for the legendary Metal Church at The Royal Bear in Algona, WA (near Auburn). For more info, check out my calendar page here: http://www.lizzydaymont.com/calendar.html

We are also making some headway with recording the new Charlie Drown album, with 4 songs nearly done and another few "on deck" ready to begin recording. It is sounding good, and feedback so far has been very positive.

This year should prove to be very exciting!

Peace out,

Lizzy

News from Lizzy - 12/28/2006

Greetings all,

I wanted to give a last minute reminder for any Seattle area folk about tomorrow's (Friday, December 29) show. I'll be playing with Charlie Drown at the "new" Fenix at the New Year's Eve Eve Eve party being thrown by Exotic Underground magazine. I also got a last-minute call to fill in with the opening band, Late September Dogs, so I'll be playing with two bands.

The Fenix is now located at 1700 1st Ave S in Seattle, in the club formerly known as the Premier. Late September Dogs will open the show at 9:30, then Charlie Drown plays second. To close the night will be Undercover, an all-star cover band made up of local musicians including three members of Late September Dogs. Nothing to do? Come on out, sure to be a good time!

In other news, tracking on the Half Zaftig album is 99% done. Another one or two sessions and it will be ready to mix during January. A few weeks ago we had my good friend Liz Aday into the studio to add some incredible vocals to a few songs. I can't wait for people to hear this! We expect to have some rough mixes ready to upload to MySpace for a preview very soon. We also will be getting a review in the fabulous local rag The Stranger.

Hope you all had a great Christmas, and have a Happy New Year!

Love,
Lizzy

News from Lizzy - 11/28/2006

Winter greetings from snowy Seattle!

I hope you all had a good Thanksgiving and are gearing up for the holidays. I have a couple gigs to let you know about, otherwise it's the same old news I keep reporting. :-)

Friday December 15 I will be in Portland, OR for a headlining show with Charlie Drown at Rock & Roll Pizza. We have been off the stage for some months while working on recording and having guitar player issues. All is now resolved and we are moving ahead with things. This will be my first gig with this band in Portland, their past shows there have been well received so I hope to see lots of people out there rocking with us!

Then on Friday December 29 we will play in Seattle at the new Fenix (formerly The Premier) for an early New Year celebration. As always, I'll have more details on my site at the calendar page here: http://www.lizzydaymont.com/calendar.html

While you're at my site, do check out the revamped music page. I've removed some of the older recordings and put up samples from a few recent recordings I've done, with Half Zaftig, Angela Hammontree and Susan Robkin. I also threw in a photo or two taken at studio sessions this year. Find it here: http://www.lizzydaymont.com/audio.htm

I also put up some photos from the gig I did with Lyranthe in October. See them here - there are a lot, so be patient while the page loads: http://www.lizzydaymont.com/lyranthe.htm

And now for the usual other news: I know I've been saying this for months, but recording is actually nearing completion for the Half Zaftig album. We might even have everything tracked before the end of the year. If this happens, with any luck we will be mixing the album in January and should have it out sometime in the first 6 months of 2007. Crossing fingers! The songs are really sounding fantastic, I must say, as little pieces are being added. I'm getting pretty excited about getting this out there to the world.

That's all for now…stay safe out there!

Greetings all,

Happy autumn! Time to start raking leaves.

A couple things to let you all know about: Next week I'll be playing another show with Seattle progressive rock band Lyranthe. This time we are opening for the excellent Swedish prog band The Flower Kings, again at Studio Seven (110 S. Horton St., Seattle) The show is on Wednesday October 18th starting at 8:00. Also appearing will be local band Pagasys. Tickets can be reserved online at the Lyranthe website
here: http://www.lyranthe.com

I have finished recording all the bass tracks for the upcoming Half Zaftig album. We still need to finish up a lot of vocals and Yogi is working on his guitar overdubs. For those interested in the inner workings of recording an album, I have posted a number of diary entries about the whole process in my Gig Diary here:
http://www.lizzydaymont.com/gigdiary.htm You can also read studio diary entries posted by singer/guitarist Yogi and drummer Pete at the band forum here: http://www.wonky.net/forum/ We have a rough mix of one new song called "A Kick In The Shin" posted on our MySpace page
here: http://www.myspace.com/halfzaftig Check it out and let me know what you think!

News From Lizzy - 8/9/2006

Hello there!

Just a few gigs to mention coming up this month:

This Saturday August 12th I will be filling in again with Late September Dogs at the Showbox in Seattle. This historic venue is one of the biggest and best clubs in town, and it's an honor to be on that stage where so many great artists have stood. As far as I know, the show will still be taking place as planned in spite of the fire that occurred on the roof there a few days ago.

I'll do another show with Late September Dogs the following weekend, on Friday August 18th at The Central in Pioneer Square. Check out the band's website here: http://www.lateseptemberdogs.com

The next night, August 19th, I'll be in Milton, WA at Club Atlantis playing with Charlie Drown. Wednesday August 23rd is another show with Charlie Drown, at El Corazon in Seattle. See Charlie's site here: http://www.charliedrown.com (you might want to make sure the kids/boss aren't nearby)

Information such as ticket prices, time, and venue locations are all at my website calendar page here: http://www.lizzydaymont.com/calendar.html The same information can be found at my MySpace page, for those who are so hip. http://www.myspace.com/lizzydaymont

Other than gigs, I am still working with Half Zaftig on our upcoming album. Much of the tracking for the album is complete. There are still lots of guitar and vocal tracks to be recorded, but my bass tracks on all but one song are all finished. We may throw down one last new song for the album but haven't quite decided yet. Keep up with Half Zaftig here: http://www.halfzaftig.com

I am also working with Charlie Drown in the beginning stages of recording a new album. Pete, the drummer who is also known as my husband, is engineering all the initial recording for the album, then we will hand the tracks over to a person who is not yet to be named for mixing and further production. Things are sounding quite fantastic so far, if I do say so myself.

Hope you are all having a wonderful summer! Enjoy it while it's here, it will be over too soon I'm sure.

Cheers!

Greetings all,

I hope you are all having a wonderful sun-filled summer! I have a couple last minute July gigs to let you know about.

On Wednesday, July 19, 2006 I will be playing another show with the prog rock band Lyranthe, again at Studio Seven (110 S. Horton St. in Seattle). We will be first on the bill, followed by local band Waking Hour, then national touring band Cellador in support of their debut album. The show is all ages but there is also a bar for those with ID. Doors open at 7:30pm, tickets are $6 in advance or $8 at the door. http://www.lyranthe.com

Then on Sunday, July 23rd I will play a show at the same venue with Charlie Drown, headlining "Mecha-Fest", an industrial festival. We were added to the bill at the last minute to replace a band who had to cancel. The festival begins at 2:00pm with a total of 8 bands performing; Charlie goes on last around 10:30pm. Tickets are $10 in advance (available through Ticketswest) and $12 at the door, all ages and bar with ID. http://www.charliedrown.com

More information is at the calendar page at my website at http://www.lizzydaymont.com/calendar.html

Things have been very busy for me lately. I am now working with industrial metal band Charlie Drown as an official member. We are putting together new material in preparation for recording the third album.

In addition, Half Zaftig is spending this weekend in the studio recording drums and bass tracks for a couple more songs we'd like to put on our upcoming album. We hope to have something listenable sometime this fall.

Hope to see a few of you out there!

Peace,

News From Lizzy - 4/24/2006

Greetings everyone,

A few updates for you!

There are some new live video clips posted at the Half Zaftig website from our most recent gig at the Catbox in Tacoma on April 15. Shot and edited by Darin DiPietro, they actually look and sound pretty decent. They are in Quicktime format and you'll need the latest version of Quicktime to view the files. Check them out here: http://www.halfzaftig.com/videoLive.html

On the gig front, I have a last minute show with the Late September Dogs this Friday April 28 at Neumo's in Seattle. I will be filling in for their bassist Brian Timpe, one of my former cohorts in Half Zaftig. It should be a rockin' good time! See my calendar page for details on the wheres and whens: http://www.lizzydaymont.com/calendar.html

Check out Late September Dogs at their site here: http://www.lateseptemberdogs.com

Of course coming up in about two short weeks is the show with Lyranthe, opening up for the great Spock's Beard. I have been working with the guys in Lyranthe on a new epic they've been writing, it's about 24 minutes long and we will be playing it at the show. The gig is at Studio Seven in Seattle on May 9, and tickets are still available here: http://www.lyranthe.com/shows.htm

Lastly, a few months ago Pete and I did a recording session with our friends Angela Hammontree and her guitarist Brooks Clark. They recorded a new EP with producer Paul Speer and asked us to play on it. Now the recording is finished and 3 songs are available to hear at their MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/angelahammontreeband. I think they came out great!

I hope to see some of you at the upcoming gigs. Thanks to the folks who made it out to the last one (you know who you are!)

Peace out,
Lizzy

Hello all,

Yet more news in the life of Lizzy!

Firstly, the most exciting thing I have to report is the unveiling of the new Half Zaftig website. For quite a while now it has consisted of one page with a lovely logo and not much else. Now it is a full fledged site complete with a multi media section, the main feature of which is part one of our web documentary with a look at the making of our upcoming album. We have been working on and off in the studio for the past year or so, amassing lots of video footage which Shawn, our fearless leader who is also called Yogi has compiled and edited into something watchable. It's rather entertaining, if I do say so myself. And sorry about all the swearing!

Check out the site and the video right here: http://www.halfzaftig.com

In other Half Zaftig news, we have yet another show coming up in a couple weeks on April 15th in Tacoma. The venue is called The Catbox (sounds so appealing, I know) and we're on the bill with the fabulous Charlie Drown for whom Half Zaftig drummer Pete also plays. This means he will be pulling a double shift. More details such as venue information can be found on my site's calendar page here, http://www.lizzydaymont.com/calendar.html or at the aforementioned http://www.halfzaftig.com

Lastly, a reminder about another show I have coming up in May with the band Lyranthe. We are opening for Spock's Beard, one of the great progressive rock bands of today. The show is May 9 at Studio Seven in Seattle. Tickets can be purchased through the Lyranthe site here: http://www.lyranthe.com/shows.htm

That's it! Go in peace.

Love,
Lizzy

Hello everyone,

Just a quick update for folks who reside in the Pacific Northwest:

Half Zaftig will be playing in Seattle on Thursday, March 16 at the Central in Pioneer Square. It's a late one this time, we start at midnight. But we are playing a long set, over an hour. So if you want to get the most out of your five bucks, lose the sleep and come on out to this one. It would be so nice to play for more people than just the bartender! More details at my calendar page here: http://www.lizzydaymont.com/calendar.html

The next show is tentatively April 15th in Tacoma, after that we probably won't be playing out until the new record is finished and out in mid-late summer. So get it while you can!

One last thing...let's all wish Yes bassist Chris Squire a happy birthday today, March 4. Since the very beginning he has been such a huge influence on my bass playing, as well as my musicianship all around. Thanks for the inspiration Chris!

Peace out,
Lizzy

Hello again!

Sorry for the barrage of emails lately…there's just enough stuff going on to warrant them.

Thank you to all the folks who wished me well on the gigs I played last week. They both went great and people in the audiences seemed to enjoy themselves.

I wanted to announce an exciting show that I'll be playing in May. Lyranthe has asked me to do some more work with them, including a gig opening for one of my very favorite progressive rock bands, Spock's Beard. It will be on May 9 in Seattle at Studio Seven. Advance tickets are available now through the Lyranthe website at http://www.lyranthe.com/shows.htm Price is $27.50.

This will be the first time Spock's Beard has played anywhere near the Pacific Northwest, and is the only stop in the area on this tour, so people will be traveling from miles around for this one. Tickets will go fast, get 'em now while you can! Of course, you'll also want to make sure to catch me with Lyranthe playing all new and unreleased material (check them out here: http://www.lyranthe.com) It will be an entire evening of prog rock, with additional opening bands Ashland and Presto Ballet.

Other gigs being confirmed now are with Half Zaftig, who will be playing again at the Central in March and The Catbox in Tacoma in April. I'll send more details when those are fully confirmed, and you can always check my calendar page for the latest updates here: http://www.lizzydaymont.com/calendar.html

Half Zaftig will be entering the studio this weekend to continue work on our new album. We are expecting to get bass and drums for another 2 songs recorded as well as some other miscellaneous parts. We are getting close to having enough material for a full record, and hope to have something out in the summer. You can read the studio diaries we are each writing at the Wonky Forum, under the Half Zaftig section: http://wonky.net/forum/

Lastly, for those who are uber-hip enough to be on MySpace, do drop by my page at http://www.myspace.com/lizzydaymont and Half Zaftig's page at http://www.myspace.com/halfzaftig, where you'll find a few photos posted from our gig last week.

That's it for now, I'm sure you'll be hearing more from me soon.

Love,
Lizzy

Greetings all!

I hope 2006 is treating you all well. I have a few things to report.

Firstly, I had two successful recording sessions this month. One was with singer Angela Hammontree, with whom I recorded a few years ago when she released a 4 song EP. She is working on new material and once again is working with producer Paul Speer. Playing guitar with Angela is an old friend of mine named Brooks Clark, so it was great fun to work with him once again. Pete and I both participated in the 3 song session, and it will see the light of day very soon.

I also recorded an entire album's worth of bass tracks, 14 in all, for singer/songwriter Scott Schweiger. He is working with producer/engineer David Loy, whom some of you may know as the keyboardist from Susan Robkin's band. David runs a studio and is recording Scott's album. I will send an update when these recordings are available to listen to or purchase.

In gig news, I actually have two shows coming up. On Monday, February 6th, Half Zaftig makes its return to the stage after a couple years absence. We will play at the Central Saloon in Seattle's Pioneer Square at 9:00. The evening shall be a birthday celebration for a local musician known as Hodgy. If his past birthday parties are any indication, it is sure to be an event to remember for years to come!

The following night, February 7, I am filling in as bassist with progressive metal band Lyranthe at Studio Seven in Seattle. We will be opening for a Finnish band called Sonata Arctica. Needless to say, I've been doing a lot of rehearsing since the band's material tends to be on the technically challenging side! The show starts at 7:30. Advance tickets are $15 and can be ordered online here at the Lyranthe website: http://www.lyranthe.com/shows.htm.

You can also get more venue and ticket details for both shows at my site on the calendar page here: http://www.lizzydaymont.com/calendar.html

Lastly, I have an interview up at a new website called Bassgirls.com. It is a site devoted to female bassists from all over the world. You can see my interview here: http://www.bassgirls.com/bass_daymontlizzy.htm or visit the Bassgirls page here: http://www.bassgirls.com/

Carry on!

Love,
Lizzy

Happy Holidays all!

Just a quick note to mark the end of the year and holiday season…

This year has had some excitement for me! Pete and I moved into a house after spending the last two years in a small apartment and with many things in storage. Needless to say, this was a welcome change. Shortly after, we traveled to Florida for my father's wedding and a wonderful Daymont family reunion. The lucky bride? My dad's sister-in-law, also known as my aunt Dorothy, who was married to Dad's late brother…no name change needed! I reconnected with my Florida cousins whom I hadn't seen in so many years, and got meet their extended families for the first time. It was truly an event!

My main band, Half Zaftig, released their first CD, called the Retrograde EP. It has 5 songs and is really more of a demo, but it is the first recorded work released publicly of this band. You can hear 4 or the 5 tracks as well as purchase the CD here: http://www.wonky-records.com/mart/cd_retrograde.html

Lastly, my dad shipped out the baby grand piano that belonged to my grandmother, and had been passed down to my mother. He is in the process of moving to Florida permanently, and is emptying the house. I am so excited to have this piano that was such a centerpiece of the family at my grandparents' house while I was growing up. I wish to thank my dad, again, for taking care of the business of getting the piano to me. I've put up a page with some photos of it, including some from the distant past, here: http://www.lizzydaymont.com/piano.htm. Any family members who wish to share more pictures of the family around the piano are welcome to send them to me. I'd love to add more! I also have a recording of Grandma playing, when I have time I will post an audio file on the page.

On the musical front, in the coming year I have some exciting projects to look forward to. I have a couple studio sessions with local artists scheduled in January, and Half Zaftig is continuing to work on a full length album. We hope to have it out by spring 2006.

In closing, I'd like to wish everyone a joyous holiday season, however you may celebrate! Peace to all.

Cheers,

Lizzy

Greetings all,

Good news: The Half Zaftig "Retrograde" CDs are here at last and ready to ship. We have been taking pre-orders for a while now, and due to a delay regarding the artwork, it took longer to get them pressed than originally expected. They look really great, and wait 'til you see the disc itself - it will bring back those memories of the old vinyl (if you're old enough, that is.)

For anyone who has forgotten, this is the 5 song demo EP we began in 2004 and just finished recording earlier this year. We will be giving them away to people who come to the shows, but for those who live in places other than Seattle they can be ordered from Wonky-Records.com, here: http://www.wonky-records.com/mart/cd_retrograde.html

I'm really happy with the recording, and hope some people out there will enjoy it. There are plans in the works to get Half Zaftig out and gigging, which of course I will inform you all about when it happens. We continue to rehearse, write, and record for a new album which we hope will come out next year sometime.

I'd also like to send out love and congratulations to my dad, who recently got married! And welcome to my long lost cousins who are new to my list - please feel free to reply directly to this email and say hi!

As always, you can check my website for the latest goings on at http://www.lizzydaymont.com.

Hoping you all have a lovely autumn!

Love,
Lizzy

Hello all!

I am very happy to announce that the EP by my band Half Zaftig has been completed, and four of the five songs may be downloaded for free at the Wonky Records store here: http://www.wonky-records.com/mart/cd_retrograde.html in MP3, AAC (for iPod), or Windows Media formats. It is called Retrograde, very fitting considering these songs are not new, but are being re-visited.

The CD is still being manufactured, but may be pre-ordered for $4 and will ship in about 3-4 weeks.

Give a listen, enjoy, and please let me know what you think. Not only did I play bass on these, but quite a bit of guitar as well. I also sang some backup vocals, no doubt you will be able to tell which one is me!

In other news, I will be playing at the Bite Of Seattle on Sunday, July 24th at 7 pm at the Mural Stage with the Sean Philbin Band. It's free, of course, but bring some money to have some delicious food at the always enjoyable Bite! Get there sooner to check out some other bands on the many stages.

Ta-ta for now!

Hello Folks!

I haven´t sent out an update in a while, mainly because there hasn't been much to say. But now I have a few things to note, and so I shall.

Next month I'm playing a few live gigs. The first is with singer/songwriter Sean Philbin, with whom I played with a couple times in 2003. He needed a bass player to fill in once again and gave me a call. On July 7 we'll be playing a lunchtime outdoor show in downtown Seattle at 5th and Denny, starting at noon. Then we'll play at the Bite Of Seattle on Sunday, July 24 at 7:00 pm on the Mural Stage. Both shows are free, so come on out. You can hear some of Sean's music at http://www.theseanphilbinband.com

The other news is that the Half Zaftig recording that began as a "demo" last year is now officially an "EP", and we are just wrapping up the mixing on it. The CD will have 5 songs and will be available for purchase at the Half Zaftig website (http://www.halfzaftig.com). When we start playing out live they will be FREE to anyone at the show (pssst….that's incentive to come out to a show….) You will also be able to freely download mp3s of four of the songs on the website too. What more could anyone want?

At the same time, Half Zaftig is working on a full length album of all new material. We have some tracks recorded, and are busily writing new stuff in preparation for the next visit to the studio. To read about our studio adventures, visit the Wonky Forum at http://www.wonky.net/forum and check out the "Band Stuff" forum where I, along with Yogi and Pete have been keeping diaries of the album sessions.

That's about it for now. I hope you are all having an enjoyable summer so far, and keep cool!

Love,
Lizzy

Greetings all!

It´s getting to be springtime, and the air is ripe with…pollen! Achoo! I hope March finds you all well and with renewed vim and vigor as the winter melts away.

I have a few new things to report. Firstly, January´s film shoot for Entertain The Moon went wonderfully, and some great footage was shot in front of a small but enthusiastic audience. I haven´t seen any of it yet, but have heard that it looks excellent. Thanks to all who came down to the Fenix to participate! I will let you know when there is any information available about when the film is finished and might be seen anywhere. There is still some music left to record for the soundtrack, and I´ll be working on it with Toby in the coming months.

Other exciting developments in the recording area: Half Zaftig has begun work on the new album! We are working with engineer Darin Di Pietro in his studio where singer/guitarist/writer Shawn "Yogi" Farley recorded his two previous excellent albums. Darin is a joy to work with and this will undoubtedly be a fun filled project. I have started a studio diary that you can read at my website here: http://www.lizzydaymont.com/gigdiarymar2005.htm

We also are close to finishing up work on the Half Zaftig demo tracks we started last year before going on hiatus. When they are done and mixed, they will be available on CD and for free download at the Half Zaftig website. They are sounding incredible so far, and will be "revisited" band versions of some of Yogi´s older songs. This is intended as a promotional tool for people to check out what the band sounds like until our album is finished.

Not much happening for live gigs, but I have a two-nighter scheduled in June with the Steve Power band playing blues and classic rock covers. We´ll be opening the summer live music season at the River Rock Ale House in Renton, WA.

And that´s about it! Have a great spring!

Love,
Lizzy

Greetings Friends and Family,

Just a note to wish all a happy 2005, and I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season leaving you ready to begin a new year.

I also have two interesting musical things to report. Firstly, the band I´ve been involved in since June of 2002, Yogi & Half Zaftig, has ended its hiatus that began in July. There has been a personnel change, and I am now the bassist in the band as opposed the rhythm guitarist I was before. This is a welcome change for me, since bass comes more naturally to me and is just plain more fun. We have secured a regular rehearsal space where we are working 3 times a week on new material that we plan to record and release this coming year. The band name has been shortened to just Half Zaftig, and is a trio consisting of myself, my husband Pete Johnston on drums, and Yogi (a.k.a. Shawn Farley) who sings, plays a mean guitar, and writes the bulk of the material. The website address: http://www.halfzaftig.com (not much there yet). You can check out Yogi´s website at http://www.wonky.net

The second thing I´m doing currently is for a film project I´ve reported on previously, titled Entertain The Moon (http://www.entertainthemoon.com). As promised, there will be a film shoot in which I will be performing coming up on Tuesday January 18th at The Fenix in Seattle. I´m playing the part of the bass player in a band led by one of the main characters of the film, played by local musician Toby Brady. We will need a lot of extras to make up the audience, so please come down if you´d like to participate. Admission is free, and takes place in the evening. We will lip-sync for a couple songs, then play a short live set for some distance shots and to entertain our crowd for hanging out. Those who are local may email me for more info (just reply to this email).

I´m really looking forward to the coming year to do more recording and gigging. Hope to see some of you out there.

Cheers!

Lizzy Daymont

Greetings, one and all.

I shouldn't say anything about politics because it's not usually my thing. But....let's just say I sincerely hope we survive the next four years.

On to more interesting things, I have a show coming up this Friday Nov. 5. A little late perhaps, but all this election stuff has made me forget all about what I was put on earth to do!

Those in the Seattle area can come on out to the Redhook Brewery at 14300 N.E. 145th St. in Woodinville to see the Steve Power Band. We'll be playing from 9:00pm to 11:00pm. Come out, enjoy a fine beverage or two, and some fine blues and classic rock. Here's how to get there: http://www.redhook.com/brew_woodinville.html

Winter is upon us....and some new things are on the musical horizon for me. I will have some announcements pretty soon about what's going on. Until then, stay warm, happy Thanksgiving, and hope you had a fun Halloween (unless you live in Puyallup, WA where it was cancelled by the school district. Yes, cancelled. Boy, times have changed.)

Still, life goes on.

Peace,
Lizzy

Greetings friends and family,

I have another small update in the form of a last minute gig announcement for the locals. I'll be playing with the Steve Power Band this Friday, September 10th at a little joint called Brewsky's in White Center just south of West Seattle. We play from 9pm-1am. The address is 9635 16th Ave SW.

And that's it! Happy back-to-school! Hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend. We sure did, and my muscles are still sore from our camping/hiking trip!

Love,
Lizzy

Hi Folks, just a quick reminder for those in the Seattle area that I´ll be playing this Saturday, August 21 at the Redhook Brewery in Woodinville. It will be with blues guitarist/singer Steve Power. Pete will also be playing drums, and the show goes from 9-11. Come on out, have a delicious beer, and enjoy! Here is a webpage with directions and info: http://www.redhook.com/brew_woodinville.html

And an update for those who are interested in being extras for the indie film "Entertain The Moon" (http://www.entertainthemoon.com): There will be a film shoot at The Tractor Tavern in Ballard on Saturday, August 28, 2004. Be there at 10:00 am. Presumably, anyone who shows up will be an audience member for a live show featuring one of the two fictional bands that are in the film. Here´s the Tractor website if you don´t how to get there: http://tractortavern.citysearch.com/

And that´s it! Short and sweet.

Love,
Lizzy

Greetings one and all!

I have just a few things to tell you about, and then I´ll let you get back to your summer!

I have one gig coming up in August on the 21st. This is with the Steve Power Band, which is a blues trio. I play bass and Pete is our drummer. The real star of the show is Steve Power, a fantastic young guitarist/singer. The gig is at the Redhook Brewery in Woodinville, WA (14300 N.E. 145th St.), and it is two hours of blues and classic rock covers beginning at 9:00pm. Click this link for information about the brewery: http://www.redhook.com/brew_woodinville.html (My favorite brew there is the Blackhook Porter!)

The independent film I´ve been involved in recording the music for now has a website up, at http://www.entertainthemoon.com. Toby Brady, who plays a leading role in the film and is writing almost all the music, asked me to play all the bass tracks for the soundtrack. For the last few months we´ve been getting together with drummer Josh Sinder (formerly of the band TAD) to work on the arrangements and record at Toby´s studio. During the months of August and September there will be several shooting days for scenes with the 2 fictional bands being featured in the film. I´ll be in one of the bands performing a live show. If any of you local folks are interested and coming out to be an extra for any of the club scenes, please let me know and I´ll give you the pertinent information as I get it. You can reply directly to this email.

And lastly, Pete and I celebrate our 4th wedding anniversary on July 30th. YAY!

Enjoy the rest of your summer, and peace to all.

Love,
Lizzy

Greetings folks!

I have some great news! After a long wait, Susan Robkin is releasing the album she spent most of last year working on. I played bass on two songs on the album and co-wrote a couple as well. You may now purchase it at her website at http://www.susanrobkin.com. (Dialup users, please be patient - loading takes a few minutes.) Use the navigation menu to go to "buy discography" or "listen". The new album is titled Surfacing To Breathe. I´ve heard it, and it´s very good indeed. You may listen to a few of the songs there on the site. The songs I played on are "Get Up, Go On" and "You Bother".

You can read about my adventures in the studio here: http://www.lizzydaymont.com/gigdiary-woodstock2003.htm Playing bass on the rest of the songs is Tony Levin, who has been a big influence on me for many years. It´s a huge thrill for me to have my name in the credits alongside his, as well as Elliott Randall and Jerry Marotta who I actually played with. These guys played on records I was listening to when I first started learning guitar!

If you would like to keep informed of Susan´s activities, please join her mailing list at her site. She is playing shows in the Seattle area, though I am not in the live band at this time. The album is coming out on Susan´s own independent label, so please help support the artist by buying directly. I will send out her press release with more details about the album soon.

In other news, The Safety Skirts will make their triumphant return to the stage on June 11, 2004 at the Rendezvous in Seattle´s Belltown area (2322 2nd Ave
Seattle, WA 8:00 sharp). This is an all-girl trio in which I play drums. The singer/guitarist, Michele Colyn, will be leaving for New York City this fall to pursue her adventures in comedy there, so this may be the last Safety Skirts show for a while! Don´t miss the rocking! For more information about this band, including song downloads, visit this page http://www.lizzydaymont.com/safetyskirts/sshome.htm or find the link on my homepage at lizzydaymont.com.

Two of my musical cohorts in Half Zaftig, Yogi and Brian Timpe, have started their own internet radio station. They have named the program "Poultry Of The Damned", a name inspired by my guitar noise that was dubbed "The Satanic Turkey" (see a video of it here: http://www.halfzaftig.com/video/ ). You can listen to the weekly show from its very own website, http://www.poultryofthedamned.com There are instructions there that will tell you what you need to listen to the show on your computer. A high speed connection is essential. The show consists of a huge variety of music personally chosen by two musicians with eclectic tastes, and plenty of chit chat about said music. I will be a guest host at some point, along with Pete. The show is broadcast weekly, then is repeated 24 hours a day throughout the following week. Where else could you hear Slayer followed by Barry Manilow, then all of side 2 of Miles Davis´s In A Silent Way? It´s a hoot, I tell you, and very educational for the musically minded. I´ve heard a lot of music I´d never heard before that I´ve enjoyed quite a bit.

The trio I´m now in with Liz Aday and Jeremy Clement needs a name. Can anyone come up with something clever for a band with two Lizzys? You may reply directly to this email with any suggestions.

And that´s about all there is to say! To anyone I haven´t heard from in a while, feel free to respond directly to this email.

Peace out,
Lizzy

Hi folks!

Just a small update on the recordings I am doing with Yogi and the band Half Zaftig: there are some photos and sound clips from the sessions available at studio engineer Darin Di Pietro´s website here: http://www.unclesaltyscabin.com/yogi_sessions.html (click on "session pictures" for the photos). So far we have bass and drum tracks, and some of my guitar parts. When I´ve finished my parts, Yogi will do his guitars and vocals, then Brian and I will do some backing vocals. When finished, these demo songs will be available as free downloads on the band website.

And for the really adventurous, you may see a video clip of me tracking a very strange guitar part here at the Half Zaftig website: http://www.halfzaftig.com/video. You will need either Windows Media Player or Real Player. It´s a large file, so dialup users beware, it will take time to download. But worth the wait, in my opinion. I apologize in advance for the one swear word.

There is also a detailed account of the sessions on bassist Brian Timpe´s website, here for the curious about what goes into this wacky kind of fun: http://www.briantimpe.com/pages/studio%20pages/YHZ_Demo.htm

In other news:

I have added yet another guitar to the collection. This time I found a used Carvin TL60 guitar, which happened to formerly belong to Bruce Johnston, a guitarist I did a couple gigs with last year in the Sean Philbin band. Oddly, Pete and I ran into Bruce at the guitar mart last month, then we went back in a few weeks later and I saw his old guitar there for sale. I snapped it up. I know a winner when I see one!

The MoxieJames first and last Seattle gig went great. Singer Kara is now in Nashville to put the idea together there and make it fly. I had so much fun playing with guitarist Liz Aday and drummer Jeremy Clement that we decided to start a new project together as a trio, with me as the bassist and Liz on guitar and lead vocals. We will throw some original and cover songs together and do gigs wherever and whenever, as our busy schedules allow.

And that's it for now. It´s about time for Spring to start springing! Enjoy this time of new growth.

Peace to all,

Lizzy

Hi everybody!

2004 is now in full swing, and I have some new projects to tell you about. I would have sent this sooner, but I´ve had nonstop rehearsals the last several weeks, and it´s been hectic.

I am recording bass tracks for the soundtrack of an independent film, to be called "Entertain The Moon". It will star local Seattle scene veteran Toby Brady, aka The Reverend T.C. Ragdoll. Toby is writing most of the music for the film, having won over the directors with his songs when they awarded him the lead role. I will appear in the film in at least one of the bands that will perform in some scenes. The film is about a rock singer, so there is lots of music. For information about Toby visit his website: http://www.lostdogma.net. There you can listen to some of the music that will be in the film, and some of Toby´s songs for his original band, Lost Dogma.

I´ve also been rehearsing as a guitarist for a project with some other female musicians. It´s called Moxie James, and is the brainchild of singer Kara James. We play "southern fried rock", all female musicians (except the drummer - seems to be an absence of good female drummers around here). Liz Aday, from Superlush, is my partner on guitar and we´re having a blast. Kara is about to move to Nashville to pursue her singing career there, and this will be the test run for her band idea. Our first, and probably only gig is Thursday, March 25 at The Swiss in Tacoma. For details (time, directions etc.) please visit my website´s calendar page. (http://www.lizzydaymont.com/calendar.html) There is also a fun website for Moxie James, complete with goofy pictures, here: http://www.moxiejames.com

Next weekend I will be in the studio with Yogi & Half Zaftig to record a 5 song demo, and possibly a couple songs to release as a single (details on that to come). Since Pete and I joined this band last year, we have been playing previously existing music from Yogi´s 2 CDs, and now we want to have a recording to represent this band as it exists now, for obtaining gigs and just generally for people to hear. Later this year we plan to record a full length CD of all new original material as Half Zaftig.

On my own, I´ve been writing and recording a little here and there. I have about 4 songs in the works. Unfortunately, not enough time to work on them due to other things going on! Eventually, they will see the light of day.

Just for fun, here´s a list of CDs I´ve been enjoying recently:

Joni Mitchell: Shadows & Light
Pat Benatar: Go!
Lyranthe: Oculus Inferno
Peter Gabriel: Up
Dream Theater: Train Of Thought
Cathy Richardson: The Road To Bliss (Grammy-nominated for best CD package!)

Until next time, keep on rockin´!

Love,
Lizzy
