THE SAFETY SKIRTS - BIOS

Michele Colyn: Lead vocals and guitar

Becca Jubie: Bass and backing vocals

Lizzy Daymont: Drums

Women? Yes. Sexy? Sometimes. Rawkin’? Always.

Formed by the co-founders of Geekweek-published monthly, The Safety Skirts
combine the pop sensibilities of classic groups like The Ramones, the quirky
lyrics of the Pixies and the saucy attitude of groups like The Go-Gos. Most
of the time, they just play rockin’ songs that make them feel good.

Sometime in the recent past, Michele Colyn (Lead Vocals, Guitar) and Becca
Jubie (Bass, Back-up Vocals), lifelong friends, started the short-lived, but
well-loved band- After School Special. Then in 2001, after a few personnel
changes, Michele and Becca found Lizzy Daymont (Drums) cleverly hidden in a
cubicle at Michele’s workplace. The three joined forces, changed their name
and, from word of mouth and a little pixie dust, landed a few local gigs,
including a recent headlining show at Sit ‘n’ Spin.

In August 2002, they recorded and released “We Wear the Pants”, a 6 song EP
showcasing the bands versatility and general rawk quotient. The EP features
such favorites as EP 4300 (the only song in existence about the
responsibility and misfortune awaiting those who purchase a copier…twice),
Romilor (a tasty treat of a song about Lester Bangs’ favorite cough syrup)
and Rockabilly Boy (an ode to the pomaded and cuffed in our fair city).
Currently, the band is pursuing local gigs and possible re-release of their
EP on a small label.

Unlike some other all-female groups, The Safety Skirts embrace their
nerdiness and present a sound lacking in pretension and dripping in rock.
Skipping around from country to pop to straight-ahead rock and roll, they
seek to entertain jaded audiences with a variety of genres while infusing
each one with their signature wit and catchy melodies.
